Billy Cotton scratching his head, his BRDC badge showing clearly on his overalls. On the left with his back to the camera stands Wilkie Wilkinson. The schoolboy on the right is Billy Cotton's older son Ted who went on to pilot Mosquitos in the war. Bill's 1935-built E.R.A. was R.1.B. previously owned and driven when new in international races by Richard Seaman who won three times and took two second places in it that year. Billy Cotton and Wilkie raced the car regularly throughout 1938 and 1939, Bill's last race at Brooklands being the 3rd August Mountain Handicap on 7th August 1939 which he won at 77.15 mph. Billy Cotton's E.R.A. could always be recognised from the badge just under the windscreen.
